East Ridge volleyball: Raptors win Cretin-Derham Hall tournament championship
East Ridge earned a little revenge in winning the Cretin-Derham Hall tournament championship on Saturday in St. Paul.
In the loss to Cretin-Derham Hall (10-5; 4-0 SEC), East Ridge junior Emily Hrastich led a balanced Raptors’ attack with a team-high 10 kills. Seniors Jamie Swanson and Maddie Christenson each had eight kills, junior Jasmine Ough had eight kills and junior Claire Whitman had seven kills. Swanson led the team with six blocks, while freshman Allison Barber added five blocks. Barber also had a team-best 32 set assists, while junior Savana Lipps had a team-high 16 digs and senior Sydney Kleinhuizen led the team with two aces and an 85.7 serving percentage.“We started the match off strong and took game one, but couldn't follow through the rest of the match,” East Ridge head coach Erin Nickleby said.East Ridge (11-7; 1-3 SEC) bounced back from the loss with a 3-0 sweep of White Bear Lake on the road. East Ridge won 25-14, 25-7, 25-17 in the three-set victory over the Bears (8-10; 0-4 SEC).Christenson had a team-best 10 kills to lead the offensive attack.Junior Emily Bialka and Swanson stepped up big on defense with six blocks a piece and Lipps provided a team-best 18 digs. Bialka also had a team-best 31 assists in the match, while senior Makayla Sauo added 15 digs and eighth grader Isbella Ratzloff had 14 digs.“Everyone on the varsity team contributed to that win,” Nickelby said. The Raptors welcome rival Park (9-6; 0-4 SEC) to The Perch on Thursday.
