East Ridge VFW baseball: Raptors rolling
Wins have come often for the East Ridge VFW baseball team this summer.
East Ridge compiled a 15-6 record through last week heading into the final stretch of the 2012 season.
The VFW team got the season off to a good start, going 5-1 with wins over West St. Paul, Mahtomedi, South St. Paul, North St. Paul and Eagan. The team averaged more than 11 runs per game in its first seven victories and held opponents to an average of 3 runs a game.
They dropped two games, including a 9-0 defeat against Cottage Grove on June 7, and a 6-5 loss to Hastings the next day.
East Ridge climbed to 15-6 after winning three in a row the end of last month. The team topped Oakdale 13-6 on June 23, then beat White Bear Lake 14-6 on June 28. A 10-8 win over Ranview on June 30 put them at 15-6.
East Ridge took on Mendota White on Monday, July 9, after this edition of the Bulletin went to press.
East Ridge begins the regular season's final stretch with a home game against Mahtomedi Gold at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 12. They'll play at least two games at the Owatonna Tournament Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15.
The season ends on the road with a game against Lake Elmo on Monday, July 16, and against Mendota Blue on Tuesday, July 17. Both games are at 6 p.m.
This year's roster includes Ryan Keenan, Zach Wahl, David Wermers, Parker Moquist, Max Manders, Nick Johnson, Jake Sheehan, Michael Hietpas, Lucas Berry, Drew Molin, Matt Kelly, Will Cobbs, Carter Stoehr, Luke Ringhofer and Sam Cobbs. They're coached by Brian Sprout.
