The opening of East Ridge High School is quickly becoming a reality, especially now that the first band parent meeting was held on Nov. 25 at Lake Junior High.

During the meeting, the East Ridge principal, Aaron Harper, the assistant principal, Matt Kraft and the band director, Christopher Tank, expressed their visions for what they hope the band program will bring to East Ridge.

"I want music to be fun, I want it to be energetic and I want it to have a lot of spirit," Tank said.

Both Harper and Kraft told parents how important a quality band program is to the success of a high school, especially a new one.

"The band really sets the tone for a high school," Kraft said.

Tank said he has many visions for the future of the band program; and that is where the East Ridge Raptors Band Boosters come into play.

"I am only one person," Tank said. "I'm going to need some help."

Tank gave an overview of what responsibilities booster members will take on at the various band events, including parades, football games, concerts, trips and grant writing.

Debra Aamodt, the Woodbury High School Band Boosters club president, said that she encourages parents to get involved in the boosters club.

"Parents are the foundation of the band program," she said.

Aamodt said they are hoping to have the first booster meeting on Dec. 18 at Lake Junior High in order to set up the various committees and draft the booster by-laws.
