East RIdge gymnastics: McKenzie, Raptors beat Bears
The East Ridge gymnastics team won its second Suburban East Conference meet of the season, topping White Bear Lake 129.775 to 127.2 on Thursday, Dec. 20, at East Ridge High School.
Junior gymnast Kelly McKenzie buoyed the Raptors (2-2 SEC) in the win. McKenzie won the all-around with a 32.95, which included a first-place finish in the vault (9.2) and in the floor exercise (9.35). In addition, freshman Karina Joiner scored an 8.9 in the vault, which was good for second place, junior Keliana Thompson scored an 8.75 in the floor exercise for second place and senior Libby Lawrence scored an 8.0 on the beam for second place. East Ridge freshman Kelsey Deverell earned third place on the bars with a 7.625. Deverell finished fourth in the all-around with a 31.525 score, just head of Lawrence, who finished fifth in the all-around with a 31.475 score.
Next up, East Ridge is at an invitational at Big Lake on Jan. 5.
