East Ridge gymnastics: Depleted Raptors eke out win over Cretin-Derham Hall
Despite being depleted by injuries, East Ridge kept up its winning ways.
East Ridge was behind Cretin-Derham Hall going in to the last event, but scored enough points to avoid the upset.
“The girls kicked it up and ended up getting the win,” East Ridge head coach Brittany Morris said.
East Ridge sophomore Megan Trollen led the way for the Raptors in the win. Trollen won the all-around competition in a close battle with Cretin-Derham Hall’s Becca Wilcox. Trollen scored 37.225 in the all-around to Wilcox’s 37.075.
Trollen won the beam with a 9.475 and the floor exercise with a 9.575, while taking second place on the bars with a 9.15 and third in the vault with a 9.025.
Wilcox won the vault (9.55) and the bars (9.475).
Also for East Ridge, sophomore Taryn Johnson placed second in the vault (9.35) and third on the bars (8.6). Johnson also scored an 8.725 in the floor exercise and an 8.125 on the beam for a 34.8 all-around score.
Sophomore Karina Joiner had an all-around score of 32.6, which included an 8.875 on the floor, an 8.7 in the vault, a 7.9 on the beam and a 7.125 on the bars.
Additionally, sophomore Emma Kansas scored an 8.55 in the vault, seventh-grader Olivia Trebesch delivered an 8.475 on the bars and seventh-grader Hannah Walker scored an 8.1 in the vault, a 7.775 on the beam and a 7.2 on the bars.
With the win, East Ridge improved to 7-1 in the SEC, second to Roseville, which is unbeaten and ranked No. 2 in Class AA.
Next, East Ridge visits Woodbury High School to take on the Royals on Thursday, Jan. 23.
