East Ridge girls golf: Aimua, Anderson shine at state

This spring, Andriel Aimua and Taylor Anderson became the first girls golfers from East Ridge to qualify for the state tournament. Last week, they showed they belonged.

Both juniors, Aimua finished in a tie for 19th place out of 88 golfers and Anderson came in a tie for 26th place. Aimua shot a 164 at the two-day Class AAA tournament, held June 11 and 12 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, including a 81 on the first day and a 83 on the second day. Anderson carded a 167 total with an 82 on the first day and an 85 on day two.

Wayzata junior Sarah Burnham and New Prague junior Kenzie Neisen tied for first place with matching 140 scores, edging Cretin-Derham Hall junior Celia Kuenster (144) for the championship. Kuenster had won the past two Class AAA state titles.

Anderson and Aimua became the first female Raptors to qualify for the state golf tournament based on their finishes at the Section 3AAA tournament. Anderson carded East Ridge's top score at sections with a 167. Aimua scored a 170. As a team, the girls section tournament came down to a tie-breaker between East Ridge and Eagan - the teams' fifth-best individual score - after the two teams turned in identical two-day, four-player scores of 684, with Eagan ultimately winning the section championship.

The Edina Hornets finished as the Class AAA team state champions, shooting a 644 four-person total score, edging second-place Alexandria (655) and New Prague (660).
