East Ridge girls basketball: Raptors start 2-0

The East Ridge girls basketball team opened the season with a pair of lopsided wins at the Henry Sibley Invitational.

The Raptors (2-0) tipped off the season with a 66-27 win over South St. Paul on Friday, Dec. 6, and followed it up with a 54-30 victory over Henry Sibley on Saturday, Dec. 7.

In the season opener, East Ridge opened up a 32-20 lead on South St. Paul (1-2) at the half, then outscored the Packers 34-7 in the second half.

East Ridge senior Jamie Swanson led all players in the game with 20 points, while freshman Mariah Sexe netted 12 points.

Against Henry Sibley (0-3), East Ridge jumped out to a 28-16 halftime lead and cruised to the 24-point win, outscoring the Warriors 26-14 in the second half. Swanson scored a game-high 13 points in the win. Freshman Emma Stohr added eight points and senior McKenna Karras chipped in six points.

Next, East Ridge travels to Apple Valley (0-3) on Saturday, Dec. 14, before holding its home opener against rival Park (1-1) on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
