East Ridge boys tennis advances to state semifinal
East Ridge boys tennis team has already made some noise in its state tournament appearance in program history.
The Raptors upset top-seeded Mounds View 4-3 in the state quarterfinals at Baseline Tennis Center on Tuesday morning. East Ridge advances to take on No. 4 Minnetonka in the state semifinals on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., also at Baseline. The winner of that match will play in the state championship at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
East Ridge got its four wins from freshman Anuraag Bukkuri at No. 1 singles, freshman Benjamin Van Der Sman at No. 2 singles, sophomore Nikhil Gupta at No. 4 singles and the tandem of seniors Gregory Sharrow and Yifan Lu at No. 1 doubles.
The victory also provided redemption of sorts for East Ridge. The Suburban East Conference champs only loss of the season came on May 6, when the Raptors fell to the Mustangs.
