The East Ridge boys swimming and diving team hosted the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders last week, on Thursday Jan. 16, and won the meet 93-85. The win came one week after the team’s win over district rival Park High School. Earning these two wins bumps the team up to 22 consecutive dual meet wins.

East Ridge won five individual events at the Park meet, and earned first and second place in all three relays. Sam Scholz, Kent Rabideaux, Jared Firebaugh and Ryan Schiferl started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, finishing less than one second ahead of the second place team of James Tidd, David Scholz, Pierce Firebaugh and Tyler Langstraat. Garrett Verhoeven earned East Ridge’s first individual event of the night in the 200 individual medley. Next, Sam Scholz and Tidd swam and won their only individual events of the night, the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly respectively. Verhoeven then earned his second individual win of the meet in the 100 freestyle. East Ridge placed first and second in both freestyle relays as well. The 200 freestyle relay was won by the team of Verhoeven, Rabideaux, Connor Lisowski and Sam Scholz; followed by the second place team of Schiferl, Jared Firebaugh, Aleksander Holleran and Tidd. The 400 freestyle relay was won by the team of Langstraat, Verhoeven, Schiferl, and Tidd; and second place was earned by Pierce Firebaugh, David Scholz, Rabideaux and Sam Scholz. In between those two relays, Langstraat, Joey Trevis and Ethan Smyth earned second, third and fourth place respectively in the 100 backstroke; and Rabideaux earned his individual win of the meet.

This week, East Ridge won every event in its victory over Cretin-Derham Hall, including all three relays, and diving. Sam Scholz (500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke), Rabideaux (50 freestyle and 100 butterfly), and Tidd (100 freestyle and 100 backstroke) all won two individual events each. Along with winning the 100 freestyle, Tidd set a new pool record and a new Suburban East Conference regular season record. Verhoeven (200 freestyle) and Alex Heide (200 individual medley), both won one event. Lafayette Doty won diving, followed by Max Samuelson in second place, and Brad Ostrom in fourth. Sam Scholz, Tidd, Holleran and Langstraat participated on the winning 200 medley relay team, Rabideaux, Schiferl, Sam Scholz, and Verhoeven on the winning 200 freestyle relay team, and Tidd, Rabideaux, Schiferl and Verhoeven on the winning 400 freestyle relay team.

East Ridge travels to Woodbury High School to take on the Royals this Thursday, Jan. 23.
