East Ridge boys swimming & diving: Raptors down Roseville, win 14th straight dual
The East Ridge boys swimming and diving team now has 14 straight dual meet wins, after a win over the Roseville team last Thursday. East Ridge won the meet 133-53, and won all but one individual event of the meet.
East Ridge's two relay teams in the first event of the meet (the 200 medley relay) placed first and second with only 0.4 seconds separating their times. The team of Sam Scholz, James Tidd, Mason Pflieger, and Josiah Vrannyes won the event with a time of 1 minute, 46.41 seconds, but close behind them was the team of Garrett Verhoeven, Alex Heide, Kent Rabideaux and Tyler Langstraat with a time of 1:46.81. In the next two events, East Ridge placed first, second and third. Aleksander Holleran, Pierce Firebaugh, and Ryan Schiferl respectively in the 200 freestyle, and Rabideaux, Heide, and David Scholz respectively in the 200 individual medley. Tidd and Pflieger placed first and second in the 50 freestyle, Vrannyes placed fifth.
Diving was the only event that Roseville won, won by Levi Arneberg. Arneberg earned a score of 157.70 points, edging out East Ridge diver Max Samuelson by less than half of a point. Samuelson earned a score of 157.25 points. East Ridge divers Brad Ostrom and Quinn Matthews also placed fourth and sixth respectively.
Verhoeven, Firebaugh, and Schiferl opened up the second half of the meet with respective first, second, and fourth place finishes in the 100 butterfly. Rabideaux, Holleran, and Langstraat then placed first, third, and fourth in the 100 freestyle with respective times of 51.30 seconds, 52.73 seconds, and 53.87 seconds. In the next event, the 500 freestyle, East Ridge earned the next top three finish. Verhoeven won the event, Sam Scholz placed second, and David Scholz placed third. East Ridge had three relay teams in the next event, the 200 freestyle relay. The junior varsity team of Joey Trevis, Connor Lisowski, Brady Opsahl, and Noah Halbur earned a time of 1:56.64, the second place varsity team of Schiferl, Pflieger, David Scholz, and Sam Scholz earned a time of 1;36.73, and the winning varsity team of Tidd, Rabideaux, Holleran, and Firebaugh earned a time of 1;34.67.
The Raptors earned first, second, and fifth place in the next two events. Sam Scholz, Langstraat, and Trevis earned respective times of 59.17 seconds, 1;03.53, and 1:09.24 in the 100 backstroke; and Tidd, Heide, and Vrannyes earned respective times of 1:03.16, 1:05.73, and 1:17.78 in the 100 breaststroke. East Ridge closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay by the team of Holleran, Firebaugh, David Scholz, and Verhoeven with a time of 3:30.60.
East Ridge has their last home meet of the season this week when they swim against the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders. The meet will be at Woodbury Middle School at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31.
