Though Woodbury has a young team, East Ridge brims with pride in beating their rivals.

An 11-1 defeat of Woodbury, the first in East Ridge’s history over the intra-district and Suburban East Conference rival Royals, brought a smile to the face of Raptors head coach Aime Caines.

“I am very excited about the win,” Caines said. “The Woodbury game is always a tough game and to get the win is huge for the program.

Randy Wilson led the scoring for the Raptors (6-0; 6-0 SEC) with three goals. Killian Wilson netted two goals and assisted on one. Jack Dwyer and Mac Webb each scored a pair of goals. Also, Jacob Wetterstrom both scored a goal and assisted on a score and Grant Edwards chipped in a goal.

“East Ridge has really improved since last year,” Woodbury head coach Jason Worwa said. “They have great participation in their off season program, and it shows on the field. They are a well-coached, skilled group of players and they are deep.”

Peyton Bixby stopped nine shots to earn the win for the Raptors and the trophy between the two rivals.

“Peyton Bixby shut the door in [the] net,” Caines said.

Defense made the difference for East Ridge, shutting down the Royals’ top scorers in Lee Broadbent and Trey Lervick. The two Royals combined for 21 points through May 1.

“We had a good scout on Woodbury and knew who their top players where and got our matchups against them,” Caines said.

East Ridge beat Cretin-Derham Hall 8-3 on Wednesday, April 30 to improve to 6-0 on the season. The Raptors visit Park at 7 p.m. Wednesday and will host Roseville at 7 p.m. Monday, May 12.
