District 833 School Board Special Meeting for November 12, 2013

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ron Kath at 6:30 p.m. at the District Service Center, located at 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN. School Board members present were Marsha Adou, Tracy Brunnette, Laurie Johnson, Ron Kath, and Katy McElwee-Stevens. Board members Jim Gelbmann and David Kemper were absent. Superintendent Keith Jacobus was present.
Mary Amidon, Assistant to the Superintendent and School Board, presented the Abstract of Votes Cast for the school district\'s general and special election that was held on November 5, 2013. The General Election was held to elect four (4) school board members to 4-year terms each. The Special Election was held to elect one (1) school board member to fill the vacancy in the term of a school board member expiring January 4, 2016 and to consider three ballot questions.
As specified in the Abstract of Votes Cast, a total of 10,176 voters of the school district voted in the election. 56,770 voters are registered in the school district. As a result of the election, the four individuals with the highest votes and those that were elected to the 4-year terms were Katie Schwartz of St. Paul Park; Tracy Brunnette of Cottage Grove; Katy McElwee-Stevens of Newport, and Sharon Van Leer of Woodbury.

As a result of the election, the individual with the highest votes and who was elected to the 2-year term was Laurie Johnson of Woodbury.

A total of 10,147 voters of the school district voted on the question of renewing the portions of the referendum revenue authorization of the school district which expire after taxes payable in 2014 and 2015 (SCHOOL DISTRICT BALLOT QUESTION 1), of which 6,631 voted in favor, 3,516 voted against the same. Having received the approval of at least a majority of such votes, that question did pass.
A total of 10,126 voters of the school district voted on the question of approving an additional referendum revenue authorization of the school district for taxes payable in 2014 and thereafter (SCHOOL DISTRICT BALLOT QUESTION 2), of which 5,463 voted in favor, 4,663 voted against the same. The passage of School District Ballot Question 2 was contingent on the passage of School District Ballot Question 1. School District Ballot Question 1 having passed and School District Ballot Question 2 having received the approval of at least a majority of such votes, that question did pass.
A total of 10,121 voters of the school district voted on the question of approving the issuance of school building bonds for a school acquisition and betterment program (SCHOOL DISTRICT BALLOT QUESTION 3), of which 5,045 voted in favor, 5,076 voted against the same. Having not received the approval of at least a majority of such votes, that question did not pass.
Motions were made and seconded to approve the election results as presented. Motion was carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:40pm.
