A new showroom at Renewal by Andersen gives customers two views.

They can look at replacement window models and get a glimpse of the manufacturing process in the background.

The window manufacturing facility in Cottage Grove's Business Park recently celebrated the remodeling of a new showroom. The converted lobby area features a number of residential and light-commercial windows. Others are mounted on the showroom walls.

The revamped showroom opens as Renewal also is extending its walk-in customer hours.

Renewal President Paul Delahunt said they decided to create a more expansive showroom and use the factory as a backdrop.

"People are interested in seeing what's still made in America," he said.

Andersen's Renewal division manufactures replacement windows that are installed by professionals, not do-it-yourself homeowners. They include traditional double-hung residential windows as well as decorative and shaped windows. All frames and sashes are made from a wood and vinyl material.

All of the Renewal windows are made to order. Stock windows, such as those sold at big-box home retail centers are part of other Andersen divisions.

Window manufacturers saw business plummet during the recession and housing construction crash a few years ago. Delahunt said the replacement window sector also saw business fall off, but not as badly as the new construction.

"During that time frame we've always grown," he said.

Renewal has over 100 affiliates or dealers across the country. It doesn't do much business in hurricane-prone southeast states because homes there use a different type of window.

The Renewal division of Andersen Window Corp. employs about 550 people. There are about 350 jobs at the Cottage Grove plant, but that number fluctuates due to the seasonal production schedule.

Renewal's new showroom is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Renewal is at 9900 Jamaica Avenue. For more information, call 866-736-3925.
