Cottage Grove Strawberry Fest wet, but not a wash
Cottage Grove Minnesota 7584 80th Street South 55016

Strawberry Fest-goers were met with hard rain, drizzle, mist and a few periods of dry skies as the weather put a damper on, but did not wash away, the third day of Cottage Grove's annual community celebration.

The weather forced festival participants to change their plans, organizers to cancel some events and determined parade crowds to hunker beneath ponchos and umbrellas.

Periods of heavy downpours plagued Saturday morning's parade, drenching participants and sending the thousands lining the route along Jamaica Avenue and Indian Boulevard scrambling for cover under tarps, trees and garages.

All afternoon Strawberry Fest-run events at Kingston Park were canceled, including the Strawberry Fest Talent Show, Business Expo, a K-9 demonstration by Cottage Grove police and a number of sports tournaments, due to the hours of steady rain.

Festival organizers decided to go forward Saturday evening with live music and the fireworks display, co-sponsored by the Bulletin and Werner Electric Supply. People sat with umbrellas in Kingston Park to take in the fireworks in a light drizzle.

Most Strawberry Fest activities wrap up Sunday.
