Cottage Grove seeks help clearing hydrants
The city of Cottage Grove is asking residents to help keep fire hydrants accessible in the winter.
The recent snowfalls and snow plowing have hidden some fire hydrants, making them difficult for Cottage Grove firefighters to quickly find. If the hydrant is snow-covered firefighters must first dig it out before hooking up their hose, losing valuable time.
Residents are encouraged to clear the snow off fire hydrants nearest their residence. Firefighters need at least a 3-foot clearance on all sides of the hydrant, including a pathway to the hydrant from the street.
