Cottage Grove police reports for March 19: Drugs, theft, burglary, property damage
A summary of recently reported criminal activity:
A 16-year-old Cottage Grove boy was given a juvenile ticket for possession of drug paraphernalia and underage tobacco possession following a March 7 traffic stop at 80th Street and East Point Douglas Road.
A 19-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia following a March 7 traffic stop at 80th Street and East Point Douglas Road.
Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road, on March 8 provided Cottage Grove police with information about recent suspected thefts. The store requested that police prohibit two people from entering the store.
A St. Paul Park man reported March 9 that his bicycle was stolen from outside the Park Grove Library, 7145 East Point Douglas Road.
Police received a report March 9 that a trailer with three snowmobiles ($11,500 total) was stolen from a parking lot in the 8600 block of West Point Douglas Road. There are no suspects.
A 31-year-old Hastings man was arrested on suspicion of possessing shoplifting gear, a felony, following an alleged theft March 10 at Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road. Cowden allegedly concealed merchandise in a bag hidden in his jacket, according to the report. He also was cited for misdemeanor theft.
A Cottage Grove resident reported March 10 that a license plate was stolen from a vehicle in the 8300 block of Isle Avenue.
A Cottage Grove man reported March 11 that approximately 85 prescription pills were taken from a home in the 7600 block of Hinton Avenue.
The first reported theft at the new Walmart Supercenter came about seven hours after the store opened last week. Police were called to the store at 9300 East Point Douglas Road about 3 p.m. for a theft. A 19-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for shoplifting after taking $40 worth of merchandise. A 16-year-old Cottage Grove boy was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft after taking about $5 worth of merchandise.
A 52-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for theft March 12 after police said she stole $39 worth of merchandise from Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road.
A women shopping at Rainbow Foods, 7282 East Point Douglas Road, called police March 12 after her cellphone was stolen. She put it in her grocery cart and turned away. It was gone when she turned back to the cart. Loss: $250. The store did not have surveillance video where the theft occurred.
A 27-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for shoplifting March 12 after stealing merchandise from Walmart, 9300 East Point Douglas Road. The suspect and a female suspect who was not ticketed were prohibited from returning to the store.
A Cottage Grove woman called police March 12 to report that her purse was stolen while she was at American Motorsports Bar and Grill, 7240 East Point Douglas Road. She provided a description of the suspect but the purse was not located.
A Cottage Grove woman living in the 8100 block of Hearthside Road reported March 13 that some of her mail might have been stolen.
Police received a report March 9 of a damaged home in the 9700 block of 85th Street. A second-story window was broken. There were no footprints on the ground in the area.
A Cottage Grove resident reported March 11 that someone threw a pool ball through the window of a vehicle in the 8100 block of Ingberg Trail. Damage: $350.
A police officer on patrol shortly after midnight March 10 saw a light on in the garage of a foreclosed home on 90th Street. The officer found a lock that had been pried off. Nobody was in the home but there were personal items inside.
A Cottage Grove resident reported March 12 that a house in the 8200 block of Foothill Road was egged. There was no permanent damage.
Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire about 5:30 p.m. March 13 in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 8120 East Point Douglas Road.
