Recent criminal activity reported in Cottage Grove:

Property damage

Armstrong Elementary School, 8855 Inwood Ave., reported July 8 that a window was broken. Damage: $100.

Crestview Elementary School, 7830 80th St., reported July 10 that someone used a bolt-cutter to cut the chain on batting cages. Nothing was stolen.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 11 that someone tried to kick in an old dog door to gain entry to his home in the 6500 block of Hadley Avenue. No entry was gained.

A Cottage Grove woman in the 9300 block of Indian Boulevard reported July 13 that an unknown vehicle drove into her yard and hit her van and then backed up and hit mailboxes before driving away. Damage was estimated at more than $5,000.

Fire

Mississippi Dunes Golf Course, 10351 Grey Cloud Trail, reported a small fire in the clubhouse dishwashing area July 11. Firefighters responded.

Police received a fire/arson call shortly before 9 p.m. July 15 at Crestview Elementary School, 7830 80th St., where someone had lit the portable toilet on fire by igniting toilet paper inside.

Police and firefighters responded July 22 to a home in the 8000 block of Homestead Avenue for a reported fire in the dryer. Firefighters handled the incident.

Theft

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 22 that a GPS device ($160) was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 9400 block of 72nd Street.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 23 that a backpack containing a pair of glasses ($260) and a laptop computer was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 7400 block of Jeffery Lane.

St. Luke Lutheran Church, 7000 Hinton Ave., reported July 23 that a school bus parked at the church parking lot was damaged. Fuel lines were cut and gas was siphoned from the bus. Damage: $232. Loss of gas: $50.

A 40-year-old man, no permanent address, was cited for shoplifting and transported to an area hospital after he was found sitting outside Office Max, 9010 Jamaica Ave., about 7:30 p.m. July 23. Police believe he had been huffing from aerosol cans he stole from the store.

Police received a report July 25 that four vehicles parked at a home in the 7000 block of Jenner Circle had been entered. Miscellaneous change and a disc golf disc were stolen. A light switch and sunglasses were damaged ($150).

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 25 that a bike was stolen from a driveway in the 8300 block of Granada Avenue. Loss: $530.

A bike was reported stolen July 25 from outside Cottage Grove Middle School, 9775 Indian Blvd. Loss: $100.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 25 that a GPS device ($50) and gift cards ($150) were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 7200 block of Janero Avenue.

Burglary

A Cottage Grove man reported July 23 that someone entered his home in the 8300 block of Isleton Court via a sliding door and stole an iPad and charger valued at $400.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 25 that someone entered a vehicle in the driveway and another vehicle parked in an attached garage. The police report was not immediately available.

Tampering

Police received a report July 25 that at least five vehicles parked in a cul-de-sac in the 7200 block of Jenner Alcove were entered. Nothing was reported stolen.
