Cottage Grove police reports for July 25: Theft, domestic, suspicious male, vandalism

Recent criminal activity reported in Cottage Grove:

Domestic

Police were called to a reported domestic incident July 4 at a home in the 8500 block of Jeffery Avenue. A 23-year-old male was arrested for a violation of a domestic abuse no-contact order.

Garrett C. Olson, 20, of Cottage Grove, was arrested July 5 for fifth-degree domestic assault for allegedly hitting his 43-year-old mother in the head during an incident at their home in the 8200 block of 76th Street. He was booked into Washington County jail.

Tayler E. Powe, 21, was arrested July 5 on suspicion of two counts of fifth-degree domestic assault for allegedly biting and hitting her parents during an incident at a home in the 7800 block of Hearthside Avenue. She was booked into the Washington County jail.

Gary J. Shopek, 50, of Cottage Grove, was arrested on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault after he allegedly pushed down his 48-year-old girlfriend July 13 at a home in the 8000 block of Jensen Avenue.

Suspicious male

Police were called about 10 p.m. July 4 to Wakota Inn and Suites, 7125 80th St., on a report of a suspicious man sitting outside the hotel. Police found the man, who said he was upset because he was spending the Fourth of July alone. No citations were issued.

Drugs

Two Cottage Grove males, ages 16 and 17, were issued juvenile tickets for possession of a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle and for being in a park after hours after police found them in a vehicle shortly before 2 a.m. July 5 near the archery range in the 8500 block of 81st Street.

A police officer on routine patrol shortly after 1 a.m. July 15 found a running and occupied vehicle parked in the 7100 block of 80th Street. The driver then started to drive away. The officer conducted a traffic stop. Subsequently, a 16-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for possession of a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle. A second 16-year-old Cottage Grove male received a similar referral for possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Theft

A Cottage Grove homeowner reported July 4 that someone removed the electric meter from his home in the 8600 block of Hadley Avenue. He had no electricity as a result.

Kohl's, 7990 Hardwood Ave., reported a theft July 5. A 19-year-old Cottage Grove man and a 21-year-old Cottage Grove man were both cited for shoplifting sunglasses.

Kohl's, 7990 Hardwood Ave., reported a theft July 8. A 22-year-old St. Paul Park woman was identified as the suspect and was cited for shoplifting.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 7 that a welcome sign valued at $65 and three sets of blinds valued at $75 were stolen from her home in the 8400 block of Grafton Avenue.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 7 that a flower pot and flowers were stolen from a home in the 8700 block of Ironwood Avenue.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 9 that a bike valued at $80 was stolen a week earlier from a home in the 8700 block of 67th Street Court.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 9 that a video game system and games along with some CDs were stolen from a home in the 7900 block of Hearthside Avenue.

Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft July 10. A 40-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for theft after he switched bar codes on copper pipe.

A man reported July 11 that two magnetic signs were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at River Oaks Golf Course, 11099 West Point Douglas Road.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 12 that someone entered his vehicle parked in the 9900 block of Janero Avenue and stole change. The man was unsure if the vehicle had been locked.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 12 that someone stole a GPS device from a vehicle parked in the 9100 block of Janero Avenue.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 13 that two wheels ($400), electronics and tools ($350) were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 7900 block of Hearthside Avenue.

Holiday gas station, 8610 East Point Douglas Road, reported a $63 gas drive-off July 13.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported an $87 gas drive-off July 13.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 14 that a safe and its contents were missing from her home in the 8700 block of Janero Avenue. The loss was estimated at more than $500. Police had identified possible suspects.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 14 that the tabs were stolen from her vehicle in the 8000 block of Innside Avenue. She didn't know when it happened.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 15 that a bike was stolen from a rack outside Park High School, 8040 80th St.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 15 that a bike valued at $50 was stolen from a home in the 8600 block of Hadley Avenue.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $20 gas drive-off July 16.

Vandalism

A Cottage Grove man reported July 6 that a vehicle was egged in the 7400 block of Ivystone Avenue. Charges against juvenile suspects were expected.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 6 that a house was egged in the 8600 block of Ira Avenue. No damage.
