Reported criminal activity in Cottage Grove:
A Cottage Grove resident reported Dec. 22 that a house in the 9400 block of Hamlet Avenue was hit by blue paintballs. There was no permanent damage.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Dec. 23 that a vehicle was egged in the 7600 block of Inskip Trail.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Dec. 29 that a house in the 7200 block of Red Pine Road was vandalized with broken eggs. Food condiments were squirted on the house. The homeowner called police a day later to report another similar vandalism.
Applebee’s, 8380 East Point Douglas Road, reported Jan. 6 that someone etched “0 peso” into the bathroom mirrors on New Year’s Eve. Police have a possible suspect.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Dec. 24 that a home in the 8400 block of Ideal Avenue was burglarized. A TV and computer were stolen. There was no sign of forced entry. The incident is under investigation.
A Cottage Grove woman called police shortly before 9 a.m. Dec. 31 to report that at 2 a.m. she heard a suspicious noise outside her home in the 8000 block of 77th Street. Police found footprints outside the home but no sign of attempted entry. They advised the women to call when an incident happens.
A woman called police shortly after midnight Jan. 6 to report that she saw an unknown man in her driveway in the 8800 block of Granada Avenue. The man then ran away. Police could not locate him.
Sarah A. Smith, 27, of Rockford, Minn., was arrested Dec. 28 at Holiday gas station, 6291 Pine Arbor Drive, and later charged with fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. Police allegedly found her with a drug syringe and needle that tested positive for methamphetamine. Smith also had outstanding Washington County warrants. Matthew J. Benner, 32, of Cottage Grove, who was with Smith, was arrested for an outstanding Dakota County warrant. They were booked at the Washington County jail.
A 20-year-old Cottage Grove man was ticketed for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving around barricades after police were called to Aspen Cove Jan. 2 on a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at the end of the road. The 20-year-old was in the car.
A 17-year-old Cottage Grove boy was issued a juvenile ticket for possession of drug paraphernalia Jan. 2 during an incident in the 7600 block of Hinton Avenue.
Criminal charges are pending against an 18-year-old Cottage Grove man who was being investigated for fifth-degree sale of marijuana, police said. The case stems from police response to a drug sale Jan. 3. The man has not been charged or booked into jail.
Dennis Brothers Liquor, 7155 Jorgensen Lane, reported a theft Jan. 4. A male suspect grabbed a bottle of alcohol and ran from the store. He was not found.
Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft Jan. 5. A 23-year-old Woodbury man was cited for shoplifting.
A Cottage Grove man reported Jan. 6 that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole change in the 8000 block of Jewel Avenue.
Walgreens, 7135 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft Jan. 6. The theft could not be substantiated so there were no charges but the suspects were forbidden from returning to the store.
Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft on Jan. 6 and another involving the same suspect on Jan. 7. No charges have been filed.
A Cottage Grove woman reported Jan. 8 that someone stole a laptop ($1,000) from her home within the past week.
A 22-year-old Duluth man was arrested on suspicion of theft by swindle after he refused to pay a cab fare on Jan. 8 in the 7200 block of 80th Street. The man also had an active warrant.
Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft Jan. 9. A female suspect attempted to steal a home security system valued at $349. She did not end up taking it, but left the scene before police arrived.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Jan. 6 that someone went through a vehicle in the 7700 block of Jeffery Avenue. Nothing was stolen.
