Cottage Grove police reports for April 3: Theft, assault, suspicious activity, drugs
Recent criminal activity reported in Cottage Grove:
A Cottage Grove man reported March 21 that his locked 2008 Chevy Cobalt was reported stolen from a driveway in the 8400 block of Granada Avenue.
Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft that occurred on March 19, when a portable stereo system ($399) was stolen by an unidentified suspect.
Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft March 21. The suspect took a package of aerosol cleaning spray. He was prohibited from the store.
Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft March 23. A 42-year-old Prescott man was cited for shoplifting.
A Hastings man reported March 25 that a cellphone ($500) was stolen from a jacket at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 9979 80th St.
Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft March 26. Peter J. Nelson, 51, of St. Paul, was arrested on suspicion of felony theft, due to prior convictions within the past five years, and for an outstanding warrant. He was booked into the Washington County jail.
Police received separate reports March 26 that a vehicle ($1,000) and a snowmobile were stolen from storage property in the 9900 block of Military Road.
A Cottage Grove woman reported March 26 that gas was siphoned from her vehicle in the 7900 block of Hearthside Avenue.
A Cottage Grove woman reported March 21 that someone slashed two tires on her vehicle in the 9600 block of Dunes Avenue. No damage estimate listed.
A Cottage Grove woman reported March 23 that in three consecutive nights tires were slashed on her vehicle in the 9600 block of Dunes Avenue. The third time, two tires were slashed while the car was parked in the driveway. Loss: $800.
A 20-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for disorderly conduct and fifth-degree assault March 21 after allegedly pulling a 28-year-old St. Paul Park woman out of a car by her hair and hitting her in the face during a dispute in the 7900 block of Hearthside Avenue.
A 14-year-old St. Paul Park male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for fifth-degree assault after he walked up to a 15-year-old St. Paul Park male and punched him March 26 at Park High School, according to police.
A Cottage Grove man called police about 4:30 p.m. March 21 to report seeing a suspicious vehicle occupied by two men near a house under construction in the 11000 block of 70th Street. The men said they were from a cable company, but they were not, according to the police report. They left before police arrived.
A Cottage Grove resident reported March 22 that two vehicles were egged in the 8700 block of Ironwood Avenue. No permanent damage.
A 14-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for a tobacco violation March 26 at Cottage Grove Middle School.
Firefighters extinguished a small bedroom fire at 6749 Ideal Ave., shortly before 9 a.m. March 23. The fire appeared to start near an electrical outlet. It caused approximately $5,000 in damage. Nobody was injured.
Three people were cited for drug-related violations in a Cottage Grove restaurant parking lot. A police officer on patrol shortly before 3:30 a.m. March 25 saw two vehicles parked at McDonald’s, 7355 East Point Douglas Road, with occupants getting in and out of the cars. Police approached them and smelled marijuana in one of the vehicles. A 19-year-old Cass Lake woman was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana. A 20-year-old La Porte, Minn., woman and a 20-year-old Bemidji woman were cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
