Cottage Grove police: Man robbed during botched 'Craigslist' phone sale
A man told Cottage Grove police he was robbed at gunpoint during a late-night Craigslist sale gone bad.
An 18-year-old man called police about 11 p.m. Saturday night to report he was robbed in the parking lot of Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road.
The man said he was attempting to sell an iPhone he had advertised on the Craigslist online classified website. During the transaction, one of the two suspects pulled out a handgun. The suspects took the iPhone and ran around the building. Neither suspect was located.
They were described as black males in their late teens or early 20s, both about 6 feet tall with a medium build.
The robbery victim was not injured.
Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects. Contact detective Shawn Ebeling at 651-458-6055 or 651-458-2850 with information.
Police said when meeting someone for the first time, Craigslist suggests meeting in a public place, telling someone where you're going, bringing a cellphone with to the sale, being careful when buying or selling high-value items and trusting your instincts.
