Each of the eight sessions will focus on different aspects of police work. Participants will tour law enforcement facilities, learn from and talk with police officers, be offered a squad ride-along and participate in hands-on experiences, including firing police weapons at a training range.

Police Sgt. Gwen Martin said it’s a “behind-the-scenes look at what your police department does for you.”

“The feedback that we’ve had over the past couple of years has been overwhelmingly positive,” she said. “Everyone has loved the experience.”

Classes will run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. every Wednesday evening from Aug. 7 to Sept. 25. The program is free and open to people who are 21 and either live, work or own a business in the city. A background check is required.

The class is limited to 20 people. Applications are available on the city website or from the police department at City Hall, 12800 Ravine Parkway. Applications are due by the end of the day Friday, July 12.

For more information, contact Sgt. Gwen Martin at 651-458-6011 or gmartin@cottage-grove.org.
