A 5-year-old boy exited a vehicle that had stopped to drop him off at a Jenner Lane home. The driver thought the boy walked toward the house but the child went back to the car and tried to open a door as the driver started to leave, according to the police report. The vehicle struck the boy's left leg.

The boy had minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury. No citations were issued.

Son jailed after allegedly punching father, fleeing police

A Cottage Grove man was arrested for allegedly assaulting his father and running from police.

Police were called shortly before 3 a.m. June 9 to a home in the 8500 block of Jeffery Avenue for a reported domestic assault.

The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Justin M. Brennan, was seen running from the scene as police arrived. Officers set up a perimeter and used a police K-9 to locate Brennan a short time later in the 8700 block of Janero Avenue.

Brennan allegedly punched his father in the face and was in possession of drug paraphernalia when he was arrested, according to the report. He was booked into the Washington County jail and cited for domestic assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing police, misdemeanor property damage, misdemeanor obstructing the legal process and an outstanding warrant.

Vehicle broken into while owner nearby

A Cottage Grove resident reported that her car was broken into in the light of day while she was home.

The woman said the vehicle was parked outside her home in the 7100 block of Hidden Valley Trail about 9 a.m. May 31, after she had already used it that morning.

When she went back out to the vehicle at about 9:30 a.m., a GPS device and iPod adapter ($210 loss) had been stolen. The vehicle was unlocked.

Police were called shortly before 1 p.m. June 1 to a home in the 7700 block of Hinton Avenue for a reported domestic.

According to the police report, Dustin D. Marx, 22, allegedly grabbed his 21-year-old girlfriend's wrists, screamed in her face and broke a door. He was booked into Washington County jail on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault.

Vehicles tampered, scooter left behind

Potential thieves might have left their getaway vehicle behind in one recent Cottage Grove case.

A resident called police June 4 to report that someone tampered with two vehicles parked in the 9400 block of Hallmark Avenue.

Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicles, but something was left behind: the homeowner found an electric scooter plugged into a garage door outlet.

Social host, underage citations issued

A loud party complaint in Cottage Grove led to underage drinking tickets.

Police were called at 2:20 a.m. June 4 to a home in the 7900 block of Hemingway Avenue on a noise complaint.

Officers talked to people in the home and subsequently cited two females, ages 15 and 16, for minor consumption.

A 21-year-old man who lives at the home was cited for violating the city's social host ordinance.
