Just as predictable as campaign signs popping up in an election season are the subsequent reports of political sign theft.

Several Cottage Grove residents and at least one candidate called police in the past week to report campaign sign thefts. The thieves do not seem to be targeting signs of one particular candidate or issue, according to police.

Here are some recent reports:

-- A Cottage Grove woman in the 8800 block of Hallmark Avenue reported Oct. 12 that three campaign signs were knocked down in her yard.

-- Cottage Grove mayoral candidate Chad Rediske reported Oct. 12 that his signs were stolen from the areas of 80th Street and Hemingway Avenue; 75th Street and Jeffery Avenue; and along East Point Douglas Road.

-- A Cottage Grove woman in the 8200 block of Hemingway reported Oct. 12 that three campaign signs stolen from her yard, and her neighbor reported two signs stolen.

-- A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 17 that a campaign sign was damaged near Jamaica Avenue and Hillside Trail.

-- A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 17 that a political sign and a pumpkin were stolen from a home in the 8400 block of Harkness Road.
