Cottage Grove man's vehicle hits stranded motorist crossing highway
A stranded motorist was struck and injured by a Cottage Grove man's car Thursday as he tried to cross Highway 61 in St. Paul to get help.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, motorist Joseph McCallister, 23, of St. Paul, exited his stalled vehicle on northbound Highway 61 at Burns Avenue and tried to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 61 to get help. McCallister was struck by a southbound Saturn VUE driven by Kenneth King, 53, of Cottage Grove.
The incident happened at 9:23 a.m. McCallister was transported to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report. King was not injured.
McCallister was crossing at the Highway 61-Burns Avenue intersection, but was "going against the traffic signal," State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeseke said.
King was not immediately cited. The investigation is ongoing.
