Cottage Grove man tased after running from police

A Cottage Grove man was tased and then arrested on drug-related charges after he tried to run from police during a traffic stop.

A police officer stopped a vehicle that had only one functioning taillight about 11:45 p.m. March 24 near Summit and Eighth avenues. The suspect, later identified as a 30-year-old man, exited his vehicle and started running away. The officer chased the man and caught him a short distance later. The man refused to show his hands, so the officer tased him and then took him into custody, the report states.

A bag containing methamphetamine was found in the man's pocket and a methamphetamine pipe was recovered from his vehicle, according to the report.

The man was booked into the Washington County jail on suspicion of fifth-degree possession of methamphetamine, fleeing an officer, obstructing the legal process and possession of drug paraphernalia.
