Cottage Grove man pleads guilty to distributing child pornography; admits to possessing thousands of images
A Cottage Grove man pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to distributing child pornography.
Steven M. Borgan Jr., 31, admitted to distributing images and videos of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Borgan also admitted to possessing approximately 8,095 images and 205 videos of child pornography, "including items that portrayed sadistic or masochistic conduct or other depictions of violence," according to the plea announcement.
Borgan will be sentenced on one count of distribution of child pornography, which carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison. The maximum sentence is 20 years in prison.
Borgan entered his plea before Judge John Tunheim in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis. A sentencing date has not been set.
The case stemmed from an investigation earlier this year in which investigators discovered a website account Borgan used to share the pornography, according to the U.S. attorney's office. On July 25, police searched a home where Borgan was staying and his vehicle, recovering the images.
