This is the first year the city of Cottage Grove has awarded an organization for performing civic duties on a large scale.

More than two dozen club members showed up last week to receive the award.

Parks and Recreation Supervisor Molly Pietruszewski detailed some of the group’s activities within the community which include creating and distributing Thanksgiving Day baskets, helping with the 28th annual Breakfast with Santa event, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, buying Christmas presents for 25 area children and helping with the Holiday Train event.

“This group has come a long way,” Mayor Myron Bailey said. “It’s so neat to see you giving back and and continuing to support this community. I want to thank you for all you do during the holiday season.”

The Lions Club was awarded with a plaque.
