Cottage Grove holiday lights contest winners named
The Cottage Grove City Council applauded two area families for their creativity and holiday spirit, awarding Tim and Diane Maslowski and John Kruczek with the honor of best holiday lights.
Parks and Recreation Supervisor Molly Pietruszewski said the department received nine entries this year for the Winter Lights and Decoration contest.
“This year the houses were bigger and better,” she said. “There was one that had lights controlled by a smartphone, there were homes with music.”
The Maslowskis, who didn’t even know they were nominated, said they weren’t aware of the city’s contest.
“Both sides of their driveway are lit up, up and down the street and their tree trunks are lit,” Pietruszewski said. “It’s a great house to look at.”
The Maslowskis live at 11570 Layton Avenue.
The second place winner was John Kruczek who had decorations galore.
“I think he has just about every Christmas decoration sold at Menards in his yard,” Pietruszewski said.
Kruczek lives at 9182 Jergen Bay.
This is the fifth year the city has conducted its annual Winter Lights and Decoration contest.
Both residents were awarded with handcrafted birdhouses with the Cottage Grove insignia on it.
