Police were called at 4:09 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, to a hit-and-run crash at Innovation and East Point Douglas roads, near Highway 61. One of the vehicles left the scene.

A passing motorist followed the suspect’s vehicle, and police found the vehicle in the 7600 block of Laverne Avenue. The suspect, identified as Edward J. Johnson, 50, had exited and fled on foot.

Police established a search perimeter and found Johnson a short time later in the front yard of 7639 Laverne Ave., according to the report.

Johnson was booked into the Washington County jail on suspicion of hit-and-run and gross-misdemeanor driving after cancellation-inimical to public safety.

A 34-year-old Cottage Grove woman suffered minor injuries in the crash but refused ambulance transportation. There were three children in her car but they were not injured, police said.
