After his probationary year as fire chief proved successful, Rick Redenius was given regular status last week by the Cottage Grove City Council.

Redenius, a former St. Paul Park police officer, assumed the chief position in November 2012 after Bob Byerly retired, and he was given probationary status for one year.

Before becoming chief, Redenius was a part-time firefighter with the Cottage Grove Fire Department and was a member of the Youth Fire Explorers in the 1980s.

City Council member Justin Olsen thanked Redenius for his “exemplary job” as fire chief and applauded his efforts to help the city of Cottage Grove transition smoothly to a fire-centric EMS system.

“Thank you for all the work you do,” Mayor Myron Bailey added.

Redenius was chosen out of a pool of five candidates last year.
