Cottage Grove family displaced after fire
A Cottage Grove family was displaced after a fire damaged their home.
The family home at the time of a fire Friday evening at 8193 Ideal Ave., escaped without injury, but were displaced after the blaze caused extensive damage.
Crews were called to the home at 9:15 p.m. A fire in the rear of the home was visible from outside when the first officer arrived, Fire Chief Rick Redenius said.
The homeowners, who called 911, said they remembered smelling smoke and then their smoke detectors sounded. They evacuated safely, though one resident suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.
Redenius said some ceiling material fell on one firefighter, who was treated at the scene.
The cause of that fire is under investigation.
The Ideal Avenue home is owned by Matthew and Tammy Ritcey, according to Washington County property records.
