Cub Foods management and city officials held a grand re-opening ceremony Thursday, March 27, to mark the completion of a three-month remodel.

Crystal Johnson, internal communications manager for Cub Foods, said the upgrade was both in response to the construction of the new Walmart  and to feedback received by consumers.

“I think that was part of the strategy but this also was one of the older stores so it’s always good to update,” Johnson said. “We really did this with our customers in mind.”

Cub Foods has been in Cottage Grove since the 1980s, but has been at its current location since 1991.

In January, crews began replacing cooler doors, installing LED lights, expanding sections and creating a brighter, more open design, Johnson said.

Additional signage was installed to better guide customers through grocery aisles, energy-efficient refrigerators help make the store greener and new product expanded the store’s selection.

“We really listened to our customers,” said Joe Mahoney, district manager.

Cub Foods also donated $500 to the Cottage Grove Police Department and a palet of canned goods to the Friends In Need Food Shelf.

“It’s really important to us to be involved in the communities we are located,” Johnson said.

Mayor Myron Bailey said he was excited to see the store get the update.

“I look forward to Cub Foods being a long-lasting partner in the city of Cottage Grove,” he said.

Cub Foods is located at 8690 East Point Douglas Road.
