Cottage Grove council observes silence for wounded Lake City officer
The Cottage Grove City Council observed a moment of silence Wednesday to honor the Lake City police officer shot and critically wounded in the line of duty earlier this week.
Council members, staff and gallery members fell silent for one minute at the beginning of the final City Council meeting of the year to recognize 32-year-old officer Shawn Schneider, who sustained life-threatening injuries when he was shot Monday morning while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Lake City, a small Mississippi River town located roughly 15 miles southeast of Red Wing.
Cottage Grove officers have been involved in three shootings since 2010, the most recent a stand-off in St. Paul Park earlier this year.
Schneider, a husband and father of three, remains in critical condition in a Rochester hospital, according to media reports.
