Cottage Grove City Council reverses on sewer fee increase
Cottage Grove will leave its municipal sewer rates at the same level as 2011 next year after the City Council backed off a proposed fee hike last week.
City staff had proposed a slight increase fees paid by residential properties to cover a deficit in the city's utility operations and expected increases in Metropolitan Council sewer fees charged to the city. The increase would have meant the average property owner that is charged for 5,000 gallons of sewer usage in a month would pay an additional $3 per year
But, after the Met Council alerted cities its environmental fees would drop in 2012 for the first time in eight years, Cottage Grove City Council members elected to reverse course and leave sewer rates flat.
