Cottage Grove applies for DNR grant for Hidden Valley Park rehab
The city of Cottage Grove is seeking financial assistance from a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Partners Legacy grant to continue its prairie restoration efforts at Hidden Valley Park.
The purpose of the grant is to partner the DNR with regional and local organizations to restore, protect, and enhance wetlands, prairie, forest and habitat for fish, game and wildlife.
The city is requesting $50,000 to continue rehabilitation of native prairie that once dominated Hidden Valley Park. The city would be responsible for up to $5,000 of the project costs.
The project would include planting wetland mixes near ponds.
The prairie restoration, Parks and Recreation Director Zac Dockter said in his memo, would “advance the vision of the prairie belt through Cottage Grove.”
