A crew from Fendler Patterson Construction tears down the vacant Coldwell Banker Burnet building Monday morning on the corner of 80th Street and Hardwood Avenue in Cottage Grove. The demolition is making way for construction of a 19,000-square-foot Goodwill store. While the exterior of the former real estate building looked up to par, the general contractor said the interior had worn out.

Before demolition began, crews last week dismantled electrical hazards and disconnected sewer and water hookups. A worker for Wickenhauser Excavating said because the building was newer and no asbestos was used, interior gutting work moved faster.

Demolition and removal of debris is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
