Cities flooding ice rinks
Sharpen your ice skates -- outdoor ice rinks in the area are set to open for the season.
All of the city of Cottage Grove's outdoor ice rinks should be flooded and frozen by the end of the week, the city's park and recreation director said.
Skating rinks at two Cottage Grove parks -- Pine Tree Valley and Peter Thompson -- are already open for use, said Zac Dockter, the city's park director. This week, crews are flooding the city's remaining rinks at night. Dockter said most should be ready by the end of the week.
St. Paul Park's hockey rink and pleasure rink at Whitbred Park at the corner of Lincoln and Selby avenues is in the process of being flooded, said Brian Rumpca, the city's assistant public works supervisor. Those rinks, he said, should be ready for use by Christmas.
