Charges possible in multi-crash DWI incident in Cottage Grove
A Cottage Grove man faces possible criminal charges after he allegedly drove drunk and hit multiple cars before crashing into a tree.
There were no serious injuries in the string of crashes May 31 along Hadley Avenue, according to police.
The 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation and third-degree drunken driving, both gross misdemeanors. A preliminary breath test at the scene of his arrest indicated his blood-alcohol concentration at 0.13; the legal driving limit is .08.
Police were called about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, to 90th Street and Hadley Avenue, where a car had struck a tree. The driver was seen running from the scene, according to the report. A passenger in the vehicle had minor injuries but was not medically transported.
Officers searched the area and found the suspect walking near 95th Street and Hemingway Avenue. He was arrested.
Police also received reports that there had been other crashes near 87th Street and Hadley Avenue. The suspect allegedly struck three vehicles at that intersection. None of the drivers were seriously injured, according to police.
The man was booked into the Washington County jail but released pending further investigation. Police said they are awaiting medical information before seeking formal charges.
