Chamber of Commerce to be fourth Cottage Grove BEC tenant
As construction and remodeling work continues at the Cottage Grove Business Enterprise Center, tenants are beginning to move in.
Adding its business-minded expertise to the mix, the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce will be the fourth tenant in the BEC and first to occupy space in the lower level of the former city hall building.
The Chamber will rent out roughly 545 square feet of the former police sergeants office and communications center. Unlike the small businesses leasing space in the BEC, the Chamber will not pay discounted.
While the Chamber is not the typical BEC tenant, Economic Development Director Danette Parr said it is a good fit.
"We're hoping the Chamber of Commerce will help us foster the business atmosphere," she said. "I think there are a lot of parallels to what they do and our business model at the BEC."
With an inside access to all things business, Parr said she anticipates the Chamber being an active member of the BEC's educational opportunities such as "lunch and learn" events.
The lower level is in need of roughly $40,000 worth of repairs, specifically to the bathrooms. Parr said the restrooms in the current location are not accessible to the Chamber and a reconfiguring of space in the lower level is needed before the Chamber can move in, which is tentatively set for October.
The Chamber will be leaving behind its longtime space at the Youth Services Bureau on West Point Douglas Road.
