Bulletin editorial: In awe of local generosity
Days after the Holiday Train left the station following the anniversary concert in Cottage Grove, the final fundraising total rolled in: a record $141,795.
What a way to wrap up the historic event.
Roughly $116,000 was raised for the Friends in Need Food Shelf in St. Paul Park through local pledges, donations and fundraisers. Of note: More than $12,000 was given by people who stuffed cash and checks in the red buckets carried by roving volunteers at the concert. A big donation of $25,000 from Canadian Pacific helped put total fundraising well beyond the $116,000 collected in 2012.
Canadian Pacific handled nearly all planning for the Holiday Train concert. The railroad should be applauded for selecting Cottage Grove as the host. South Washington County clearly has embraced the cause.
The community, too, deserves applause and a thank you for its generosity.
