Assault case leads to charges that Cottage Grove man raped young girl over 100 times
An unrelated assault case led to the discovery that a Cottage Grove man allegedly raped a pre-teenage girl over 100 times during her life, according to police and court records.
Johnathan R. Beying, 30, was charged in Washington County District Court with four felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He allegedly raped the young girl and forced her to engage in other sexual acts over several years, once threatening to kill her as he raped her.
The criminal complaint says the girl reported that Beying had been having sexual contact with her for about eight years; it started with touching and kissing but led to rape at least once a week. The complaint alleges that Beying once told her, "Don't scream, I'll kill you," and on another occasion he said: "You are gonna do this with me no matter what, even if you do get married."
The girl reported that she was injured during one of the assaults, and doctors confirmed that the injuries were consistent with sexual assault, according to the complaint.
Cottage Grove police said they were informed of the rape allegations after Beying had been jailed for third-degree assault for allegedly punching a 45-year-old woman while she drove him home from a Hastings bar early Feb. 25. Beying became angry during the drive and repeatedly punched the woman in her face and head, causing a fractured bone, swelling and a black eye. She tried to stop the car on Highway 61, but Beying pulled her hair and pulled her back into the vehicle, according to a criminal complaint. She drove to the BP gas station on Jamaica Avenue and called police.
Beying fled, but was later arrested and booked into the Washington County jail. After he was jailed, the girl came forward with the rape allegations.
Cottage Grove police investigators interviewed Beying in jail. The complaint says that he admitted to sexually touching the girl and then having sexual intercourse with her over 100 times. Police said Beying told them: "I don't know why I do these things. I can't control myself."
Beying is being held on $300,000 bail and has an initial court appearance scheduled for March 16.
