"The contest represents a great opportunity for artists who would like to have their work featured on license plates across Minnesota," C.B. Bylander, Outreach Section chief for the DNR Fish and Wildlife Division.

"Money raised from the sale of these plates supports habitat for fish, wildlife and native plants," he added.

Bylander also noted that the two current plate designs feature a deer on a tan background and a loon on a multi-colored background. More than 96,000 Minnesota vehicles sport these plates.

Entries for the new plate image must highlight an individual native Minnesota species, or a combination of native fish, wildlife and/or plant species. The new plate will continue to feature flat lettering and a multi-colored image.

The design contest is open to Minnesota residents of any age. The winner will receive $500. Contest entries must be submitted between Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.

More information, contest rules and entry forms are available by calling the DNR Information Center at 651-296-6157 or toll free at 1-888 MINNDNR (646-6367), or online at www.dnr.state.mn.us.
