Alpine skiing: Maxwell, Bruesehoff lead way in PWER's race against Hill-Murray
East Ridge's Morgan Maxwell and Woodbury's Nick Bruesehoff turned in the top times in the girls and boys races, respectively, as the Park, Woodbury and East Ridge (PWER) alpine racing teams took on Hill-Murray at Afton Alps on Thursday, Dec. 13.
With standouts Elizabeth Koprucki and Jack Midtlien skiing in a FIS Alpine Ski Racing Team of Minnesota event and not at the meet, Maxwell - a senior - took the top spot in the girls race with a combined time of 1 minute, 5.8 seconds in the two-race meet. Bruesehoff, a sophomore, had the best time in the boys race with a combined 1:00.5 finish.
Additionally, in the girls race, East Ridge's Karla Brady earned second place with a time of 1:07.9, and all also from East Ridge: Becca Lepel took fifth place overall (1:11.2), Katie Kelly earned sixth (1:11.2) and Alyssa Reiter earned seventh (1:13.6). For Park, Stefanee Iverson had the top time with a 1:13.6 finish that was good for eighth place overall. For Woodbury, Sydney Johnson led the way with a time of 1:20.6, which garnered 12th place. East Ridge's Stephanie Schmitz, Marissa Bilbrey and Abbey Eggers earned ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively.
For the boys, along with Bruesehoff, East Ridge's Oliver Kennedy earned second place overall with a combined time of 1:01.5. The Park duo of Brian Buckner and Lane Crose earned third and fourth, respectively, with times of 1:08.4 and 1:08.5. East Ridge's next-best times were turned in by Holton Sailer, who took fifth (1:08.9) and Collin Mead, who took seventh (1:11.0). Woodbury's Ben Miller placed sixth with a time of 1:09.9 and Park's Alex Bruss earned eighth overall with a time of 1:11.1.
The PWER alpine team took on Mankato West and Mankato East On Tuesday at Afton Alps after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the team begins its Suburban East Conference schedule with a race on Thursday, Jan. 3, at Welch Village.
