Though temperatures outside have dipped, the area alpine teams have gotten hot.

The PWER (Park, Woodbury, East Ridge) alpine teams put together their best two meets of the year in back-to-back fashion. Park, Woodbury and East Ridge train together and are coached by the same staff, but compete as separate teams.

Last week, the PWER teams competed in the Suburban East Conference championship meet on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Afton Alps.

In the meet, the East Ridge boys and girls led the way, each taking second place - just behind Stillwater in both cases. In the boys meet, East Ridge scored 654 points to finish behind Stillwater's 674 total.

Woodbury earned 7th place out of 10 teams with 454 points and Park was 10th with 205 points. In the girls meet, East Ridge had 824 points, compared to Stillwater's 859 points. Woodbury earned sixth place with 388 points and Park was eighth with 244 points.

East Ridge senior Elizabeth Koprucki continued her mastery of the SEC, taking first place with a two-race combined time of 1 minute, 6.02 seconds. Mounds View's Juliana Damberg took second (1:07.05) and East Ridge's Morgan Maxwell placed third (1:10.31). In addition, East Ridge's Abby Eggers (1:15.97), Karla Brady (1:15.99) and Daniella Del Toro (1:16.26) took 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively, to round out the Raptors' top five. Park's top finish was turned in by Stefanee Iverson, who took 22nd place with a time of 1:17.88. Woodbury's Madison Wall had the top finish for the Royals with a 1:19.59, which was good for 28th place.

In the boys race, East Ridge's Jack Midtlien had PWER's best finish with a fourth-place time of 1:02.04. Stillwater's Steig Peterson won the meet in 1:00.38. Also, for East Ridge, Oliver Kennedy raced to a time of 1:02.58, which was good for sixth place overall and Holton Sailer took ninth place with a time of 1:04.17. Drew Del Toro (1:08.66) and Evan Bilbrey (1:09.64) rounded out the Raptors' top five, taking 22nd and 24th, respectively.

Cole Bruesehoff led the way for Woodbury with a time of 1:05.52, earning 18th place, followed by Ben Miller who was 37th with a time of 1:12.76. For Park, Dan Rogers led the way, taking 29th place with a time of 1:10.93. Also, Brian Buckner earned 32nd place with a time of 1:11.81.

Next, the teams compete in the section meet on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Wild Mountain, where they will battle for individual and team qualifications for the state meet.
