Afton Alps co-founder dies

Paul Augustine, a co-founder of the Afton Alps ski area, died Saturday. He was 79.

Augustine had been living at the Afton Care Center for about eight years. He suffered from Parkinson's disease and dementia, said Joe Yasis, Afton Alps manager.

Augustine founded Afton Alps Recreation Area in 1963 with his brother, Bob, and Tom Furlong. He was the principal owner and developer of Afton Alps, Mount Kato and Titus Mountain ski areas.
