2014 Spring Preview: Park girls golf team hopes to build on last year’s momentum
Last year, things began to look up for the Park girls golf team. The Wolfpack hopes that continues this season.
In the two-day section tournament, the top five teams advance to the second day along with the top 10 individuals not from the top five teams. On day two, the top team and the top five individuals not on the section championship club qualify for the state tournament.
In the girls tournament, Park finished in seventh place on the first day of sections, at Phalen Golf Course, with a 374 score —25 strokes back of fifth-place Apple Valley (349). Three members of the Wolfpack moved on to the second day of sections however — Anna Keys, who is now a senior, and a pair of now-sophomores, Lexi Hofstetter and Annika Hein. Keys, who was a state entrant in 2012, shot an 81 on the first day to lead Park. Hofstetter shot a 90 and Hein carded a 93. However, the Park golfers were unable to finish in the top five after the second round at Bunker Hills and move on to state. In 2012, Keys took eighth place overall at the section meet to earn a trip to state, then went on to take 29th place out of 88 competitors in the Class AAA State Tournament.The Park girls graduated just one senior, Greta Tank, from last year’s team.Weather permitting, the Wolfpack hope to begin Suburban East Conference play on Monday, April 14, at Stillwater Country Club.
