2013-14 Winter Preview: Park dance team expects to be bigger and better in 2013-14
The Park dance team is back in action this winter after a season that saw the Wolfpack go fifth in the Suburban East Conference.
The team will be captained by Maggie Katzenmaier, Anna Speirs, Sadie Kolstad and Hannah Jones this season.
Other key returning team members include: Rachel Boughton, Marea Detzler, Ellie Figlmiller, Katrina Spilde, Hannah Ashley, Micaela Flores, Haley Rogers, Sam Johnson, Crystal Lewis, Savannah Long, Dezeray Miller, Alicia Kolstad, Lauren Miller, Kate Figlmiller, Hailey Carlson and Paige Lawver.
This is the first year Park will have a junior varsity team for both High Kick and Jazz Funk.
“We have seven seniors on the team who have been working tirelessly over the past three years to improve their skills and technique,” Hemmingsen-Jaeger said. “By having a JV, we are able to teach the basics, while being able to push the skills with our varsity teams. With both of these in our back pocket, we are very excited to see what these athletes will accomplish this season.”
Park’s top competition this year is expected to be Teams Roseville and Cretin-Derham Hall.
The team has key meets on Dec. 10 at Forest Lake and Jan. 13 at Roseville.
Also, Park and the Woodbury High School dance squads are teaming up together to host the first East Metro Dance Team Invitational on Jan. 11. Although, according to Hemmingsen-Jaeger, the Wolfpack had to overcome some great obstacles getting a space to host their invite (which is used as a fundraiser for future uniforms and team necessities), they were able to be flexible and still come out being able to host their invite (which is now at East Ridge) and make it bigger and better with the partnership of Woodbury.
