2013-14 Winter Preview: New faces to lead Park gymnastics team
This winter the Park gymnastics team will be without longtime coach Mark Sikich for the first time in nearly 30 years.
In the offseason, Park also said goodbye to standout gymnasts Kasondra Tulloch and Rachel Deephouse, who graduated in 2013.
The past three seasons, Park has finished as Section 3AA champions and reached three consecutive state tournaments.
Deephouse and Tulloch were crucial to the Wolfpack’s success those three years. In their first year with the Wolfpack, as sophomores, Tulloch and Deephouse led Park to a third-place finish in the team competition and placed second and third, respectively, in the state all-around competition as individuals. The next two years Park took fourth in the state. In addition to Deephouse and Tulloch, Park also graduated McKay Zurn and Morgan Schank.Park finished 8-2 last season — its only losses were to Roseville and Stillwater.The team welcomes back Allie Minogue, Sarah LaBrosse, Sarah Quinn and Michaela Thielfoldt, who will act as team captains, along with Sarah Schank, an all-state performer last season. Schank, who was taking part in her second state meet as an individual, earned all-state on the beam with a 9.45. She also earned 12th in the all-around with a career-best 37.050.Park starts the season Dec. 5 in Hastings. Big dates on the calendar after that include Jan. 8 at East Ridge, Jan. 16 against Woodbury at Park, Jan. 18, with the Park invitational meet and Feb. 6 at Roseville.
