Cottage Grove police reports for Aug. 18

Suspicious activity

Police were called July 16 to the 8300 block of 85th Street, where a resident reported that someone in an unknown vehicle left a smaller cooler in the driveway. The cooler exploded due to a firework inside. Nobody was injured and there was no property damage.

A 23-year-old River Falls, Wis., man was ticketed for providing false information to police after officers were called about 3:30 a.m. July 26 to the 8300 block of 81st Street on a report of suspicious activity. Police found the man with no shirt and laying in a yard. He told the police his name was “F--- Y--,” according to the report. He had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.233; the legal limit for driving is 0.08. He was transported to a Hastings detox facility.

Burglary

Two 15-year-old Cottage Grove boys were charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft following a break-in reported July 17 in the 7600 block of Hinton Avenue. The resident reported that property valued at $1,000 was taken.

Property damage

A Maplewood woman reported that a purse with $30 cash was stolen from a locked vehicle July 17 in the 7600 block of 95th Street. A window was broken to gain access. Damage was estimated at $200.

Cottage Grove Ice Arena staff reported July 17 that vending machines were damaged. There was $250 damage to the locks, and $50 cash was taken from one machine.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 20 that a clothesline was cut and a garden damaged in the 8900 block of Greene Avenue. There was $100 damage to raspberry bushes.

Police responded to Hamlet Park, 8885 Hamlet Ave., for a vandalism report July 27. The top of a picnic table had been removed and a bench was damaged by skateboards. The damage was estimated at $1,200. There also was about $600 damage to lights at the skate park.

Careless driving

A 61-year-old St. Paul Park woman was cited for careless driving and failure to change address on her driver’s license following a traffic stop July 19 at 80th Street and Highway 61. She had been pulled over for suspected drunken driving, but was within the legal limit.

Fleeing

Quran Raymon Al-Hameed, 20, of Woodbury was arrested on suspicion of gross-misdemeanor obstructing the legal process with force, fleeing officer on foot and underage consumption July 19. Police were called about 12:20 a.m. to a party complaint in the 7100 block of Imperial Avenue. Al-Hameed allegedly ran from the scene and tried to assault an officer while he was being detained, according to police. He was booked at the Washington County jail.

Drunken driving

Three men were ticketed following a reported fight at 1:30 a.m. July 19 at Hyde Lane and Hyde Avenue. A 19-year-old Egan man was cited for fourth-degree drunken driving; he had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.10, just above the legal driving limit. The man admitted he drove to the location after drinking. A 21-year-old Eagan man was ticketed for possessing an open bottle in a vehicle. A 19-year-old Apple Valley man was cited for underage consumption.

Maureen P. Weigel, 52, of Cottage Grove was arrested on suspicion of third-degree drunken driving following a traffic stop about 9:40 p.m. July 25 at 80th Street and Hornell Avenue. Police said Weigel had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.25, or three times the legal driving limit. She was booked at the Washington County jail.

A 34-year-old St. Paul man was ticketed for fourth-degree drunken driving following a traffic stop at 1:15 a.m. July 26 at 80th Street and Highway 61.

Ying Moua, 23, of St. Paul was arrested on suspicion of second-degree refusal to test, third-degree drunken driving and offending an officer following a traffic stop about 11:15 p.m. July 31 at 95th Street and Jamaica Avenue. Moua was booked at the Washington County jail.

A 29-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for third-degree drunken driving following an Aug. 4 traffic stop at Jamaica Avenue and 80th Street.

Weapons

A Cottage Grove police officer was stopped about 9:30 p.m. July 30 by someone in the former G-Will Liquor parking lot, 6990 80th St., who wanted to report there was a man making people feel uncomfortable nearby. Police made contact with Scott A. Ness, 55, of Brooklyn Park who was arrested on suspicion of felony violation of a domestic abuse no-contact order and gross-misdemeanor weapons violation. He was in a vehicle with a woman with whom he was to have no contact. He also was in possession of a knife with metal knuckles, according to the police report.

Break-in

A Cottage Grove man reported July 30 that several tools valued at $375 were stolen from a garage in the 7500 block of 79th Street. The man believed someone accessed the garage using lost keys.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 31 that a flat-screen TV was stolen from a home in the 7700 block of Hinton Avenue. Entry was gained through a rear window, according to the report.

Theft

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 22 that two vehicles were broken into in the 9600 block of Dunes Lane. The only thing missing was a vehicle owner’s manual.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 22 that sunglasses, a cellphone charger and money was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 9400 block of Dunes Lane. Total loss: $40.

Two 12-year-old St. Paul Park girls were referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft July 22 at Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 22 that prescription medication was missing from her home in the 8100 block of 83rd Street.

A 22-year-old Cottage Grove woman was ticketed for shoplifting July 24 at Walmart, 9300 East Point Douglas Road.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 25 that a TV, DVD player and computer were stolen from a home in the 7500 block of 79th Street. Total loss: $599.

A 16-year-old Prescott girl was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft July 25 at Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 26 that a laptop valued at $400 and a small safe worth $20 were stolen from a home in the 8600 block of Iden Avenue. There is a possible suspect.

A 49-year-old Cottage Grove woman and a 49-year-old Cottage Grove man were cited for shoplifting July 29 at Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road.

SuperAmerica, 7033 Jorgensen Lane, reported a $20 gas drive-off July 31.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 1 that a video game system with games and controllers was taken from a garage in the 8900 block of Jasmine Lane. Total loss: $400.

A 61-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for shoplifting Aug. 1 at Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave. A 38-year-old Inver Grove Heights woman also ticketed for theft.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 1 that an amplifier was missing from the basement of a home in the 9000 block of Indian Boulevard. Loss: $800.

A Cottage Grove man reported a backpack containing an iPad, hard drive, cellphone charger and sunglasses was stolen from his vehicle in the 9800 block of Hamlet Lane. Total loss: $850.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 2 that two unlocked vehicles were entered in the 7400 block of Hidden Valley Court. A tool box valued at $50 was stolen.

Zywiec’s nursery reported Aug. 2 that a woman went into a vegetable field in the 10000 block of Ideal Avenue and took beans valued at $10. The nursery provided the woman’s license plate number. Police contacted her and she returned to pay for the beans.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 2 that sunglasses were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 7200 block of Hidden Valley Lane.

A 17-year-old St. Paul Park girl was issued a juvenile citation for shoplifting Aug. 2 at Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 3 that cologne, a cellphone charger and a tool were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 9700 block of Hamlet Avenue. Loss: $50.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 3 that a radar detector and keys were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 7600 block of 74th Street. Loss: $152.

Vandalism

Police received a report July 22 that a rental vehicle was damaged in the parking lot of Country Inn & Suites, 8350 East Point Douglas Road.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 28 that sometime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. the prior day there were several chips and scratches on his vehicle in the 6600 block of Inskip Avenue. Estimated damage less than $500.

Police received a report Aug. 4 that a light pole was spray-painted in the 8700 block of Isle Court. Damage: $100.

Disorderly conduct

A 45-year-old Cottage Grove man was ticketed for disorderly conduct following a fight with another man July 30 in the 7800 block of 72nd Street.

A 21-year-old Hastings man was cited for disorderly conduct and a 17-year-old Cottage Grove boy was issued a juvenile ticket for disorderly conduct following a reported fight at McDonald’s, 7355 East Point Douglas Road.

Attempted break-in

A Cottage Grove man interrupted an attempted burglary at his home July 24. The man told police he heard someone trying to break into his house through the front door about 9:30 p.m. The home is in the 6800 block of Pine Crest Trail. The man saw two male suspects run down the street, and police could not locate them.

Tampering

Jenell L. Schwark, 31, who has no permanent address, was arrested July 31 on suspicion of tampering with a vehicle in the parking lot of the Transmission Shop, 7470 East Point Douglas Road. She was booked at the Washington County jail.

Drugs

Colleen J. Allen-Alsaker, 35, of North Branch was arrested Aug. 1 on suspicion of fifth-degree methamphetamine possession after police approached her in a parked vehicle in the parking lot of Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road. Police found 3.52 grams of methamphetamine, according to the report. She was booked at the Washington County jail.
